ALASKA HUNTING & FISHING
Join us on Kodiak Island, Alaska for Sitka Blacktail Deer, Wingshooting and Fishing!HUNTING
Sitka Blacktail Deer
Sitka Blacktail Deer were transplanted to Kodiak Island in the 1930’s and have come to thrive on the lush vegetation the island provides. The hunting season is long and generous with it starting on August 1 and running until December 31 on the remote areas of the island.
The meat on these deer is some of the best eating venison you will find and the bucks are generally described as some of the most handsome deer with their black cap, double throat patch and heavy compact antlers.
Early season hunting involves climbing to the tops of the hills to the alpine meadows to find the older bucks. As the season progresses and the snow moves down the mountains, deer will also come down in elevation sometimes all the way to the beach on years with a lot of snow.
Waterfowl
Kodiak Island is a waterfowl haven for a variety of unique species. From early season puddle ducks to all the varieties of Sea Ducks, waterfowl hunting here can be phenomenal! The biggest draw for Kodiak duck hunting is the variety of Sea Ducks. From the beautiful Harlequins to the regal Long-tailed (Oldsquaw) and all 3 species of Scoters there are plenty of specimens to choose from. There are Eiders available very late in the season with the Common Eider wintering around Kodiak and on rare occasions a King Eider making an appearance. There are also a variety of other diving ducks that winter here with Barrow’s Goldeneye and Buffleheads some of the most common. The rich marine environment creates an ideal wintering ground that holds tens of thousands of birds all season. Our season around Kodiak starts in early October and runs through the middle of January, with the best Sea Duck hunting starting in mid-November.
Ptarmigan
Both Rock & Willow Ptarmigan inhabit the treeless areas of Kodiak Island. These grouse-like birds provide fun hunting and delicious table fare. In the fall they molt their brown summer feathers and regrow their white winter feathers, which gives them unique and beautiful mottling. Both types can be found in the high alpine areas of the island with only the Willow Ptarmigan available in the lowland tundra areas. Flying into small tundra lakes on the western part of the island and hunting the surrounding muskeg is the most effective way to find large flocks of birds.
FISHING
Our lodge is a premier Alaskan fishing and hunting lodge on Kodiak Island, the second largest island in the United States. We offer both freshwater and saltwater fishing. Our location in the village of Larsen Bay, a 30-minute flight from Kodiak City, provides world class salmon and halibut fishing with our expert guides. Our guides and our equipment are top notch, yet we are careful to provide a good value to our guests that is unmatched by many lodges.
Kodiak Island has hundreds of streams that fill with returning salmon every summer. Whether you want to target tasty Red salmon, hard fighting Chum salmon, feisty Pink salmon or aggressive Silver salmon there are multiple options not far from the lodge. To add to the variety there are Dolly Varden available in each of the streams all season and Steelhead in a couple of streams late in the season. Timing for each species is paramount to success.
We will put you in the prime spots for huge kings, feisty silvers, monster halibut and a host of rockfish species. Custom designed 29’ North River Seahawk Walk-Around boats are perfect for getting you in the best waters to catch fish.
June – September are the best fishing months. It just depends on what you want to fish for. If it’s King Salmon, then June & July are the best. If it’s Coho Salmon, then August & September are the best. Halibut and rock fish are generally good all season!!!

LODGE INFORMATION
Our lodge consists of two main buildings on the Larsen Bay waterfront. Our dining lodge is a separate structure from the sleeping lodge so that guests that wish to stay up late won’t disturb those that want to retire early.
We offer seven, clean and well-appointed rooms with 4 baths. We designed each room to provide privacy and protection from the snorers in the group. Six of the rooms have a single queen bed with deluxe mattresses and are divided with a shared shower and toilet. Each room has its own separate sink area, however. Our seventh room is a suite with two queen beds, a fireplace and private bath. Groups of 8-10 get the full lodge.
Our dining lodge boasts a commercial kitchen, a wood burning stove and an outside deck overlooking the bay. Guests enjoy cocktails and delicious appetizers after a long day of fishing and getting to know the other guests. Meals are thoughtfully prepared by our expert chef and clients rave about the quality of our food. A typical meal might include fish that was caught just a few hours earlier so if you’ve thought you were eating fresh fish at restaurants wait until you taste this! We also grow our own vegetables in the village so it is a true farm to market experience with a focus on quality. Not fancy necessarily, but a very welcomed surprise for most.
