ARGENTINA CAST & BLAST
The Ultimate Dove & Golden Dorado Hunting & Fishing ExperienceDove Hunting
Bolacua resort is located in Entre Rios Province just a 2.5 hr drive outside of Buenos Aires. While Cordoba became widely popular in the early 2000’s as the hot spot for hunting dove in Argentina, Entre Rios offers an arguable more consistent dove population with our outfitter having solo access to three roosts to choose from all within a 40 minute drive from the resort.
The Hunt
Doves start leaving the roost to find food at sunrise. The day starts with an early arrival to the blind where you will be set up with your bird boy to assist you. Once the shooting starts it will only stop when you want it to. The doves come in steady and constantly throughout the morning. We operate with two guns at a time per hunter with your bird boy reloading as you shoot and swapping out to keep the guns cooled down and the pauses as short as possible. Once things slow down a little in the afternoon you will break for lunch in the field . Enjoy a variety of Argentina meats, salad, bread and dessert in the field refueling for your afternoon hunt. After lunch you will move to your afternoon hunting position to catch the doves as they fly back into the roost for the evening. This provides a change in pace and variety to your shooting day. Around sunset or when you are ready to call it quits for the day, you will head back to the resort to relax for the evening.
DORADO FISHING
Golden Dorado fishing in the Uruguay River is as good as it gets for the international angler. Our boats have access to La Zona dorado fishing – the area where all of the largest dorado in the Uruguay River, and you will be fishing only the most productive area of the river. If you are not fishing in La Zona, you are not seriously fishing.
The area described as “La Zona” is an approximately three square mile area located in front of – and right up to – the hydroelectric dam called the “Salto Grande”. The water levels of the river are determined by the opening and closing of the floodgates of the dam.
When water levels are low, the conditions are best for fly fishing. The dorado fishing in Uruguay is the same as on the Argentine side in La Zona. The line of demarcation runs invisibly through the middle of the river and the waters are controlled by the Argentinean Prefectura Naval (coast guard). The “Prefectura” keeps recreational fisherman and poachers out of La Zona and only authorizes boats that are registered within the concession to the fish there. This maintains the quality of the fishing at the highest level. All golden dorado fishing in La Zona is catch and release.
The dam of the Salto Grande holds thousands of huge dorado in just a couple of square miles, instead of being spread out throughout the rest of the river. Your success in La Zona is virtually guaranteed – weather permitting.
